June 2021 Update

War As most of the global community is aware, this spring in Israel was marked by easing of (almost) all restrictions from the coronavirus pandemic, along with the challenges of an 11 day war between the Hamas terrorist organization and Israel. As thousands of rockets poured in from Gaza, sirens sounded several times in our area warning us to take shelter in our underground safe room. We heard rockets exploding relatively nearby, shaking our building. Read more…

March 2021 Update

Restrictions Lifting As of writing this newsletter, it is approximately one year since the pandemic hit Israel in full force. Now, a year later, it seems we may finally start seeing some light! Because of the restrictions in place, our congregation was not able to meet in our facility. We have been meeting in a public park in the open air, focusing on our home groups, one-on-one discipleship, and at times online-only meeting. But now, Read more…

Escobar Update: November 2020 – Thanksgiving, Growth, and Hebrew

Thanksgiving As American Thanksgiving comes near, we take the time to be so thankful for what God has done this year. It does not need to be stated that this was a year of shaking for the world, but as people of God, we have the privilege to CHOOSE thankfulness. Anyone can look at what seems bad and complain, but we who have our eyes opened should look and see everything we are able to Read more…

Called to Community What an amazing summer this has been! During a time when the world is being shaken and the people of God are being forced to reevaluate our priorities and what it means to be the body of Messiah, we are attempting to find God’s heart for our congregation here in Herzliya. What does that mean in plain English? It means we are trying not to be focused on just “doing church” or Read more…

Escobar Update: July 2020

Unprecedented Times As I’m sure everyone is aware, this has been a unique year. In January, our congregation in Herzliya, Israel engaged in a 21 Day campaign of prayer, going before God’s throne for our city, the nation, and the world. We knew there would be some shifts this year (different members of our congregation moving and other aspects of our fellowship growing), but we had no idea, like most of the world, of this Read more…

February 2020 Israel Update: Growth & Souls

What’s New at King of Kings Herzliya “Let There Be Light” Holiday Event This year so far has been a whirlwind! At the end of last year, our congregation held a “Let There Be Light” holiday celebration for Christmas and Chanukah, where we invited believers and unbelievers to pack out our home, eat Christmas cookies and hot cocoa, sit by a fire pit, sing carols while we shared a simple gospel message. There were several Read more…

Blessed… Looking back on our time so far in Israel, we have been tremendously blessed and shown extraordinary favor. We were able to come to Israel debt-free in August and we had already bought our major bedroom furniture when we had arrived. We have been provided for and sustained in every way. My (Matthew’s) secular work has allowed us to work remotely so we can earn personal income. We had each accidentally lost/broke our respective Read more…

Escobar Update: October 2019

Settling In This past month has been a time of growth for us. On the practical side, we are starting from zero, having to purchase new furniture and household items, getting used to a new schedule and having Alon set in a new routine. Thank you for everyone who has donated to help us get set up here. It has meant the world to us. We have a few more pieces of furniture to purchase Read more…

Escobar Update: September 2019

Hello friends! We are settling in to life in Israel once again. We flew in on August 26 and found our home in Herzliya, Israel. Much of these last three weeks have been spent getting over jet lag, finding some essentials for our shared house, and meeting the members of the Herzliya King of Kings Congregation. The congregation is a diverse mix of local and international believers from various denominational backgrounds, all worshiping the same Read more…
